Once again this happened. I was out of my rss aggregator for about 2-3 weeks. I don’t know why it happens so, but it’s like sinusoidal line. And once again I missed fantastic thing. But it’s better late than never, so….

Broken windows branding

What I realized while reading “The tipping point” by Malcolm Gladwell, is that there are a lot of common between branding and broken windows method.

For example lets take Russian telecomunication company Megafon. Company appeared last on the market after leaders MTS and Beeline. Its brand from the beginning was pretty nice, good design, maybe not so clear platform, but anyway it was better than competitors. But in order to build a strong brand it is necessary to be consistent and it is very similar to the absence of broken windows. But its hard, so after a period of consistency some bad communication begin to appear. Here we see image that don’t correspond brand identity, there appears a new slogan, and there is a new color. Just like when one window is broken it is getting worser and worser.

Don’t think that I dont like Megafon - to be frank I’m their client. However they can do better and remove all broken windows from their house.

A little from history. Martin was here in Moscow last spring, speaking together with Kotler. It was the second time, when we met and after the first part of conference we talked a bit. I was really wondering why Martin didn’t invented any Web 2.0 elements in his web site. We discussed it a bit and after I wrote Martin a letter where I explained how it can help him.

So time passed by and I was waiting what will Martin do. I received a letter from him today and here it is.
He did his best and selected a very interesting way. He made some kind a video blog. You can watch small videos, and leave your comments there. You have to see it!
