Chris wrote an interesting post about culture nuances in marketing within even one country and one market. It’s true and I got an interesting example on this.
In one advertising booklet of entertaining mobile services (”backgrounds, ringtones for your mobile - just send *** on number *** to get it” etc.) I saw a reprint of a funny image from internet community. And there are a lot of them! People think that if they will just reprint the thing everybody is already laughing in internet will be popular elsewhere. That is the problem, when it goes out from the internet - it loses it’s popularity very fast. Because it’s taken from another culture. Things that were made in special fun sites, blogs (livejournal.com) belongs to that culture. And in order to be innovative you have to either adapt it somehow (I’m not sure if it’s possible) either make something new.
Culture nuances - that’s the key.

Dear friends.
Right now I’m writing my Masters diploma work, and I extremely need information.
The work is about Business Strategy - there I’m trying to show the evolution of Strategic Management, the place of Strategy today and predict its development in future. I want my work be up to date and I’m asking for your help.
Could you please write a few paragraphs on - What is strategy for you (your organization) and what do you think will be the direction of it’s development?
I want to collect opinions and include them in my work as quotes. It will be used only for this purpose.
I would really appreciate if you will be able to find a few minutes for helping me!
You can write me on dlinkov@gmail.com or here as a comments. Trackbacks also can work.
The work will be in Russian, but in the end I’ll make a short summary as an e-book en English and primarily send it to you and publish here.
And thanks againg!
P.S.: If you also can trackback this post in order more people can read my request - that would be great! More opinions there will be, better work can be done!
“All Marketers are Liars” presentation by Seth Godin on Google Video here!
Thanks to this post on Freakonomics blog I found the Worldmapper site. And funny picture there - Russia is somehow significant only at Rail Greight and Meat import map! Thats why I cannot understand people saying “There are great perspectives in Russia”.
Trevor wrote a great post Do you know where your wells are?
It’s a great point to think about. I know some people that really work hard, and for them work is everything. As managers they are really great, but as persons most often they are unhappy. Their world is business. They don’t know where their wells are.
There is one very good rule that I took from 3M company. Sure there were exclusions, but in general - if you cannot do everything at time, then you planed your working day bad. And it’s important, because you have to have some time for yourself! Time when you can relax and do whatever you want. And also you can use this time just to think. Think about your well.
